Testing Africa's Wisdom with Potent Questions

Translations доступен: Английский (изначально) | Немецкий | Голландский

Why should there be poor people in Africa, blessed with so much human and natural resources? Why should our people languish in extreme poverty and hunger? Of the world's 1billion, Africa shamefully boosts of 21% of the world's poorest! Why? New cases of HIV/AIDS cases are highest in Africa and South East Asia just as high mortality and under-5 mortality indices show that quality of life in Africa is not improving. Why? Why should we have so much orphaned children who lost their parents to wars and diseases? Why should women die of preventable causes of maternal mortality such as unwanted abortion, teenage pregnancy and hemorrhage associated with pregnancy?

Fela's words resonate in my ears as I wonder why?

Can anyone tell me why the continent is regarded as the scar on the conscience of the world? Why? Many global partnership efforts through funding has been drained through the baskets of fraud in power. Why? Why should Africa be labeled as the corrupt black continent? Why? Why cant we rise from our slumber and demand change? Matthem Ashimolowo, in his book 'What's wrong with being black', narrates the achievement of Africans, from the ancient pyramids and civilization of Egypt, the beautiful Nok art and large traditional dynasties that span several centuries.  Why have we fallen so fast, so soon, so badly that it appears we can not be redeemed?

Fela's words resonate further: wonder, wonder, wonder...

Why should it be difficult for young people to get to school? Why should education be expensive in Nigeria's public and private institutions? For how long shall we wait to see changes in water and food supply? Aint food expensive? For how long shall we wait for the national program for poverty eradication to yield  results? Why should you go to school and not get jobs? Why should it be difficult to start a business in your father land? Why should you think the land of opportunities is abroad and not at home? When will the continent seize to fight wars? Many people died in civil wars in Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Somalia and Rwanda, to mention a few. Many have been displaced because of the Crisis in Ivory Coast and North Africa particularly Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. Why can't our leaders leave when people no longer want them in power?

What's Fela's fears? wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder...

Can anyone give me answers: when will the land flowing with milk and money become the rapporteur of opportunities? When will the continent enjoy stable political climate and favorable economic life? When shall we see incorruptible leaders take the centre stage and lead nations from poverty to prosperity? When shall we enjoy good roads, stable power supply and other basic infrastructure?

Fela's afraid I may become a wander if I wonder too much...

Are you wondering like me, trying to find solutions in the vast oceans of Africa's challenges? Why don't we join hands together to make this change? If we keep wondering, we may fulfil Fela's prophecy of being wanderers, which many Africans are! They feel they are incapacitated because their voice is not heard and their votes rarely count.

Are you planning to be become a wanderer or a wonderful solution?

If you want to be the latter, then join us on African Centre for MDG Advocacy, we can change things together!
